Become a part of Grand National history
The very first official Grand National took place in 1839 and since its establishment, the event has become bigger and better year on year. Although the race began as a low key, local event in the years before 1839, it quickly grew in popularity, partly due to the new railways which made it easier than ever for people to visit Liverpool and Aintree. With high quality horses and riders entering the competition, increasing numbers of people began to attend the Grand National each year.
Fast forward to the Grand National 2016 and around 70,000 people will be cheering on the horses and jockeys in the big race on 9th April. Thousands more will attend Aintree in the two days running up to the main race for Grand Opening Day on the 7th and Ladies Day on the 8th. You too can become part of the Grand National History by booking tickets and securing your seat for 2016.
Grand Festival – Opening Day
To kick off the Grand National 2016, the opening day will feature four Grade One competitions, alongside many more races featuring the world’s best horses and risers. Attendees can also expect to enjoy live music and entertainment throughout the day, in celebration of one of Britain’s biggest sporting events.
Grand National Festival – Ladies Day
Dubbed by many as Fabulous Friday, Ladies Day is an opportunity to don the glad-rags and feel utterly elegant all day long. With a Best Dressed competition, racegoers are almost as competitive as the riders as they vie for the position of most stylish. You can expect exotic hats, sophisticated dresses and champagne flutes aplenty on the most glamorous day of the Grand National.
The biggest races on Ladies Day include the Topham Steeple Chase, Melling Steeple Chase and Sefton Novice’s Hurdle, all thrilling races bound to get the adrenaline pumping.

Forty of the world’s best horses and their riders will compete for the grand prize at 4pm, and as always you can expect the atmosphere to be electric.
